Summer Workouts

11 Jun

The summer can be very intimidating. The summer heat creates the need to wear shorter  and lighter clothes, which creates the opportunity to show off your physique. The downside is you  are not as fit as you would like to be, you lose the interest of wearing the cute summer apparel. I totally feel you. So this summer lets start the movement to get you into a sexy outfit. Here is what you will do…

  1. Find an out fit that is about one to two sizes smaller than were you are now.
  2. Make sure it is an outfit you can visualize yourself in.
  3. Find an eating regimen you can work with. The key to weight loss is changing your habits to healthier alternatives.
  4. Designate an hour a day to working out. Whether at home, gym, park, or a friends house find an activity that provides cardio and toning benefits.
  5. Stay focused on the goal. Be realistic losing 10 pounds can be achieved in 30 days. Attempting to lose 30 pounds in 30 days is excessive and can lead to discouragement.
  6. Research for what suites you. if the workout is not challenging you, find something else. That goes for your meal plan as well.

The goal is to feel comfortable this summer and if you work hard enough, you will be wearing your summer best by the end of July. Good Luck.. Email me if you choose to start you fitness journey. Keep me posted.

Memo: Hygiene Is Required At The Gym

6 Apr

Now, let me start by saying this…Hygiene is important at all times. Keeping yourself clean is good for your health and others as well.

However, there are some people who failed to receive the memo on gym hygiene etiquette. So, for those you who are already familiar with the rules , please copy the rules and hand it to someone who did not get the memo.

Here are the rules:

  1. Bathe or give yourself a bird bath before going to the gym. The key is to limit the amount of odor ( funk) your body exhume. Spare others by washing up and putting a deodorant that is strong enough for you whether your a man or woman. Please.
  2. Wash your hands and sanitize them. The gym is almost always found indoors, filled with massive amount of body heat. Heat and movement creates opportunity for bodies to secrete sweat and possibly others matters.  To prevent cross-contamination it’s best to keep your hands clean as often as possible. In other words don’t share the germs.
  3. Please wipe the equipments with disinfectant when your done. Bacterial  infections are no joke. Before and after your workout is best to make sure  the mat , dumbbell , bench or treadmill is wiped and disinfected.
  4. Keep your distance from others if you are sick. Honestly, you should have stayed home or choose an alternate workout plan. The gym environment is not  sterile, and having a common cold could create a epidemic if your not careful. MRSA is real. Having an open wound or leaving a used towel can create havoc.
  5. Clean your workout clothes or have more than one attire. There are some of you who like to wear the same attire every day. There’s nothing wrong with that if it didn’t smell like it did the last time you wore it (musky). Depending on your workout frequency, you will need to wash your attire with a strong detergent. If you need further tips I recommend viewing an interesting article from RebekahReidy.com. Don’t just read it, do it.

Please understand this entry is not offend anyone. However, if you are failing to follow these rules you are offending your peers at the gym. Let’s workout in harmony and keep the gym, the equipments, and yourselves clean.

Ahh The Joys of Sweating

21 Mar

Sweat

As a spinning instructor, I often come across the same question. ” Do I have to sweat so much?”

I always respond, “yes, it is evidence of your hard work.” That alone was not going to be enough to convince my clients, so I started researching and found an interesting facts on the sweating.

Here they are:

Sweating Helps Build Clearer Skin

Toxins build in your pores that need to be released. Sweating releases the toxins allowing the skin to remain clear. If you suffer from acne , it may help to know that  sweating will not make your condition worse. In fact a may help decrease the outbreaks due to the release of toxins through the sweat. It is very important to take proper care of your skin before and after a workout.

Sweating is Therapeutic

Sweating helps lower your body temperature. According to fitday.com, Your body heats up to burn calories and keep your energy levels high. At the same time, your body starts to release sweat through your skin to help keep it from getting too hot. You need to stay hydrated if you exercise for this very reason. Without an adequate supply of water, your body cannot sweat and your internal temperature will be too high for you to workout normally. If you do not sweat enough, you can also suffer from heat stroke or heat exhaustion. If that is not enough to make you want to sweat , your bonkers.

The Added Bonus

If you have ever been sick with the flu, you probably caught a really bad fever. What was the best  trick to get rid of that fever?

Thats right sweat it out. The minute you began to sweat the fever fades as well.  Huh. Sweating helps remove sickness.

Now there are down sides to sweating like it leaving your clothes musty, or being drenched from head to toe. Those things are temporary. Being fit and toxin free is all worth the musk. Hell, just wash your clothes , easy fix.

I love this blog it. The song selections are perfect and they flow well. If you have a bike at home, these selections will turn a dull workout into a jam packed session.

S p i n n i n g M u s i c

Just had two weeks off the bike on sunny Isla Mujeres, Mexico, so was excited to ride tonight.  This is my latest playlist, a melange of some of the songs I’m enjoying at the moment.  All have appeared on the blog before.

Without You (feat. Usher) – David Guetta and Usher (3:28): Warmup.

Brand New Chick – Anjulie (3:32):  8 count jumps for the verses and 4 count for the choruses; medium tension (5/10).

We Found Love (feat. Calvin Harris) – Rihanna (3:36): Rolling hills, out of the saddle.  Start with tension at about 50% of your max (5/10) and do two or three small increases every 15-30 seconds, then ramp it down the same way.  There should be time for two small hills.

Niton (The Reason) (Radio Edit) – Eric Prydz (2:45): Five minutes (two songs) of tempo ride, no break between them.

Find Yourself (Radio Edit) –…

Spinning to Happiness

10 Mar

I don’t want to sound like a cliche, but getting fit changed my life. Spinning helped me conquer strengthening my endurance and stamina. The most common misconception is that being fit means being a size 0-6 that is far from the truth. Being healthy means being able to climb a flight of stairs and not be short-winded.  Being healthy means being able to past a physical each year and not have to rely on medication to manage health conditions.
