Sake Salmon Steaks with Cucumber and Tomato Relish

31 Aug

Rufus' Food and Spirits Guide

This is a great light meal that doesn’t take too long to prepare. Don’t have sake? Run out and buy some, or just use a light white wine.

Sake Salmon

  • 4 salmon steaks
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • 1/2 cup sake
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • juice from 1 1/2 limes
  • salt/pepper

Mix juice, dill, sake and oil in a shallow dish. Season each side of fish with salt and pepper and lay flat in marinade. Let sit for at least 30 minutes, turning half way through. In the meantime fire up the grill and make the relish.

Cucumber and Tomato Relish

  • 1 medium cucumber
  • 1 cup grape tomatoes
  • juice from 1/2 lime
  • lime zest from one lime
  • 1/4 cup nonfat Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

Fork and Beans

A funny thing happened to me on my way to the Olive Festival in Paso Robles this weekend…

At one of the booths sat a psychic, offering tarot card, palm and energy readings. I, of course, being of curious nature have always wanted to cross that off my list of “Things to Finally Try” so I paid my $30 and immediately gave Rose my palms to read.

“You will live a long and good life”…

I sat there wondering if she has ever broken the bad news to someone that they are going to die next week or if that is just every psychic’s modus operandi to make you feel good from bullet point one that I have many full years ahead of me (regardless if that is the truth or not). I immediately began to regret my decision until she started to read my energy and spoke on things of more…

Zumba Dance Class That Kicks Ass

15 Aug

I wanted to share this video. I was bored of my current workout regimen and needed something entertaining. I logged into YouTube and went through what seemed like a million Zumba Class videos. Most of the videos were dull and felt a bit robotic. Until, I found this video. The instructor had an contagious energy that had me really into the routine. Oh, it doesn’t hurt that he has a nice British accent either. Enjoy, I know I did.

Start Your Day With Yoga

I try to get at least 20 mins of yoga in everyday. It helps with learning the proper breathing techniques and stretches the body. Yoga if done correctly helps with calming the nerves and places you in a state of zen. I love it.

At Home Workout Videos: Avoid Pain Pay Attention

26 Jun

A common mistake people make when working out at home is not listening to the instructions. People normally stare at the television attempting to mock the task. This is how muscles are pulled, and bodies ache beyond belief. The best way to avoid this from happening is to PAY ATTENTION to the instructions. The trainer or instructor on the video will tell you what should be burning and what you should not feel.  There is always a modified version of a workout; pay close attention. The person who will present the modified version are normally introduced at the very beginning of the of each new position.  Getting back in shape is no easy task. Want to do it in a place where you are most comfortable or convenient is understandable. Home videos give people that freedom. However, when doing any physical activity there is a risk of injury if not done correctly. Do it right by listening.
